Driving simulator for Aicher medical service
Together with the Aicher Ambulanz rescue service, an impressive driving simulator for rescue vehicles has been created. The aim of the project was to use the driving simulation to better prepare drivers for operations. The targeted practice of dangerous and tight spots in particular prevents damage or even vehicle breakdowns. This avoids high breakdown and repair costs.
The simulation in Unity 3D offers a 180° screen projection for an immersive experience. Digital side mirrors and a reversing camera optimize visibility. Standard controls and displays of a real ambulance are integrated, including steering wheel, pedals, GWS, instrument cluster and special signaling system. The integration of a physics and weather model as well as a route guidance system creates a realistic driving experience. An Android tablet serves as an interface to the trainer, allowing individual training evaluations. A variety of scenarios in urban and rural areas provide optimum preparation for real-life use. In addition, a digital twin of the emergency room access road at the Rechts der Isar Hospital in Munich and the Oktoberfest, which pose a particular challenge for the drivers, was created. We are delighted that our pioneering driving simulation can even save lives.
